Frequently Asked Questions
Usage & Limits
You can still browse previously generated analyses, but new repo generations are paused until the next billing cycle. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited access.
Each depth level determines how much history Onboard feeds to Opus 4.6. Brief analyzes up to 1,000 commits, Standard up to 5,000, and Deep up to 10,000. Opus has a 1M token context window, so deeper analysis produces richer understanding.
Depth controls how much of the repo Onboard ingests and how hard Opus thinks. Brief is a quick scan (low effort). Standard is a thorough analysis (high effort). Deep feeds maximum history and uses Opus at max effort for the most detailed output possible.
Pricing & Plans
Free includes 5 public repo analyses per month at standard depth, community personas, first PR recommendations, and full web UI access. It's enough to try Onboard on any open source project.
No. Private repo support requires a Pro plan or higher, along with a GitHub token for authentication.
Yes. All plans are month-to-month with no long-term commitment. Cancel anytime and you keep access through the end of your billing period.
Features
After Onboard generates an analysis, you can ask follow-up questions about the repo. Opus 4.6 answers grounded in the full context pack, with visible reasoning.
It generates a day-by-day plan for your first week in a codebase, personalized to your role. A security auditor gets a different Day 1 than a new grad.
Run `onboard --mcp` to start Onboard as an MCP server. Claude Code, Cursor, and other MCP clients can then call Onboard tools directly to generate context or ask questions about any repo.
Enterprise
Yes. Enterprise customers can run Onboard on their own infrastructure with their own Anthropic API keys. The entire system is a single Rust binary with optional Postgres for caching.
Enterprise includes SOC-2 compliance, GDPR compliance, SSO via SAML/OIDC, and audit logging. All plans include automatic secret redaction in generated content.
